Parish Life: Pastoral Care
St. Paul says in Romans that the creation has been subjected to futility. That means the natural world does not always work to our advantage. Hurricanes blow in from the sea, weeds grow up from the ground, tumors take shape in the body. And as if that weren't bad enough, we all have to contend against the World, the Flesh and the Devil. The World (the heartless ways of human society), the Flesh (the dysfunctional side to human nature), and the Devil (who tempts us to sin whenever he can). The point being, life' s not always easy. And that is why a Church spends a certain amount of money on pastoral ministry: people need all the spirtual help and encouragement they can get.
